How to Extract Text From an Image
ScanText.io converts readable text in a photo, screenshot, or scanned document into editable text. The tool uses optical character recognition (OCR) in your browser, so you can quickly copy, edit, or download the result.
1. Choose an image
Open the image-to-text converter and choose a JPG, JPEG, PNG, or WEBP file from your device. A clear image with sharp, high-contrast text gives OCR the best chance of recognizing each word correctly.
2. Extract the text
Select Extract Text to begin OCR. The browser analyzes visible characters in the image and returns a text version that you can review. Processing time varies with the image size, quality, and amount of text.
3. Review and use the result
OCR can make mistakes, especially with handwriting, shadows, low-resolution images, or unusual fonts. Edit the extracted text if needed, then copy it to your clipboard or download it as a TXT file.
When image-to-text OCR is useful
- Copying text from screenshots, social posts, and web graphics.
- Turning a photo of notes or a document into editable text.
- Extracting information from receipts, labels, and printed forms.
- Saving time when you need a starting point instead of retyping content.
Tips for more accurate OCR
Use a well-lit, in-focus image. Keep the page as straight as possible, crop away irrelevant areas, and make sure the text is large enough to read. For complex layouts, always compare the result with the original image before using important information.
